Many didn’t see it coming and he basically dropped it out of the blue. 4 Your E yez Only was dropped in 2016 and it was an unexpected drop. When you listen to both you find a theme/concept for both projects. Friday Night Lights will always be special!īoth of these land in my 5th place spot because my thoughts on these are pretty similar. The production was solid, and you could tell that Cole was spitting verses where he was trying to showcase his skills to the world. Songs like “Blow Up” and “Too Deep For The Intro” were on heavy rotation for a while. I specifically remember I downloaded the Datpiff app on my phone immediately when I was told it was on there. When I discovered J.Cole I went back to his older work and found this gem. Nevertheless, this mixtape is still a hit. This was dropped in 2010, and I really didn’t discover Cole’s music til a few projects after. It was hard for me to rank this simply because it’s considered a mixtape. Though the list is hard too curate, I tried my hardest to put them in the best order possible. He’s a legend and his music will be some that I play for my kids as my father did for me, playing the likes of A Tribe called Quest, The Roots and Mos Def. He will go down as one of the top artists of his generation and best rappers to ever grace a microphone. His numbers in album sales and music streams have always stood at the top, even if he dropped on the same day as some of the top artists in the industry. His career has been on a steady upward trajectory for over a decade now. Photo by via InstagramĪs a fan, I find myself ranking his albums to what I love the most and though I’m biased and think all of them are great, it’s fun to rank them and reminisce on the time when they first dropped. His discography is one that is hard to top and you can’t ever find a miss. Too many hits, bars and moments to look back and think on. Or how “Power Trip” would have me staring at the ceiling in my room thinking about the ex-girlfriends I never had. I think about songs like “rise and shine” off his first album, and how it would get me in the zone for my sophomore year basketball games. That has held true years later and will stay true for the rest of my life. It was my first time hearing him and I knew that his music would be on repeat for years to come. I remember back in High school when I was riding with one of my big homies on the way to basketball practice and “ Born Sinner” was being shuffled in the car. J.Cole is my favorite artist of all time.
